It’s the New Year. You’ve probably over-indulged over the previous few months and perhaps are one of many who is resolving to be healthier in the weeks and months ahead. As a registered dietitian who loves food I also occasionally overindulge and use January as a time to re-assess my own health and nutrition habits.

The McIntosh reigns as the region’s signature variety. Other widely planted varieties include Cortland, Macoun, Empire, Honeycrisp and Eastern Red Delicious. “One of the oldest varieties is Rhode Island Greening, named after an innkeeper in the 1600s called “Green.”
